One person killed, one person severely injured, and three other people injured near 7058 S HALSTED ST in Englewood

A passenger was killed and a driver was severely injured after a Saturday morning rear end collision in Englewood on March 3, 2018 at 7:11 AM.

The crash occurred near 7058 S HALSTED ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report did not specify a cause for the crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2017 Hyundai Elantra was heading south. The driver, a 25-year-old man, reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed from the front. A 22-year-old male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed from the front.
• A 2006 NEW Flyer D40LF operated by the CTA was heading south and was hit in the rear. The driver, a 58-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt and her airbag did not deploy; she was uninjured. Three of her passengers reportedly suffered unspecified injuries. Two other passengers were uninjured.

Police were notified at 7:11 AM. This was the 95th injurious crash reported in March 2018, and the 2,440th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 13th fatal crash for 2018.
